And if anyone ever treated him the way that Dhuran Ravi and Molly Wei bullied Tyler Clementi, I would be on them like flies on shit. When I think about what those two people did to that young man, I am so fully let down by humanity. I thought my freshman roommate, Jen, was a bitch for reading my journal. I guess I should write her a thank you letter for only violating my privacy and making fun of me in private. My tearful "I miss my boyfriend" entries never made it on the internet. Or perhaps when I wrote an entry titled "Dear Jen, Emily told me you are reading my journal. Back off, bitch," she got the point and left me alone.
So I'm signing up for the "Seriously? Stop Being An Asshole Project." Because people who bully need to be called out. Whether they are kids or adults. We need to create a zero tolerance policy for bullies. Stop making excuses for bully behavior.
For those you who have been bullied... whether you are gay, straight, bi, tranny, fat, skinny, pimply, smart, tall, short, awkward, or whatever... I can honestly tell you that It Gets Better. In fact, it can be awesome. It can be fan-fucking-tastic. You will find people that love you. That accept you. That want to be around you. That tell you wonderful things about being you.
But you've got to stick around to discover that.
Yes, that blond girl is me. Well, me 10 years ago. When I had time to curl my hair, get my brows waxed, and spend hours primping in the bathroom to go to gay bar with my gay friends where my goal was for at least one lesbian to tell me I was pretty. Otherwise known as "get your party on before you become a breeder."
